Every no-tiller in the Southeast knows of University of Tennessee’s (UT) “Milan No-Till Field Day.” The AgResearch & Education Center at Milan was established in 1962 on former Milan Army Ammunition Plant land. Today, nearly 700 acres of cropland are used for research. The No-Till History series is made possible by Calmer Corn Heads.

Adam Chappell remembers when he decided to remove two elements from his farm’s periodic table. Until 2015, the fourth-generation Arkansas no-tiller and 2022 Responsible Nutrient Management Practitioners Award recipient had been purchasing the usual rates of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) on his family land outside of Cotton Plant, Ark., where he farms with his brother, Seth.

The Commodity Classic returned in-person in March, drawing farmers, researchers and industry reps. The Classic drew the usual flurry of new product announcements and demonstrations. This year’s conference included announced federal programs, information sessions with industry leaders and 56 rows of trade-floor booths.
