“Why are we planting green? Why are we doing all of this? It’s financial, environmental, and social, but it all comes together into building this year-round ecosystem and having healthy, efficient, nutrient cycling, living roots all year long…”
Trey Hill of Harborview Farms in Rock Hall, Maryland, grew up farming conventionally but the operation switched to no-till with cover crops many years ago as part of a state effort to mitigate agricultural effects on the Chesapeake Bay.
One particularly wet spring he was forced to plant green into growing cover crops and the experience changed his perspective on farming.
In this episode, we’ll hear from Trey as he addresses an audience of producers at the 2019 National No-Tillage conference, sharing his thoughts on the ecology of farming and talking about what he’s doing with cover crops, how he incorporated planting green into his operation, yield results he’s been seeing, and more.
