Here are my thoughts on recently asked questions by No-Till Farmer readers. Remember that your particular farming circumstances may result in entirely different answers to these particular concerns.

Q: I had to respray all my corn acres the last two years. What options do I have?

A: There are a couple options since you are already spraying twice with a contact herbicide. Go in at planting time and burndown only. When weeds and grasses have presented themselves, use Accent or Bea­con along with Exceed or Basic Gold.

The best of both worlds would be to use a half rate of a soil-applied material such as FulTime, TopNotch or Bicep followed with half rates of Accent and/or Exceed.

A two-step program might be more cost effective and give better control. If weed pressure is light, you can probably get by with only 5 gallons of carrier with your burndown.

Q: I live in Nebraska and am having trouble dealing with corn stalks. While I like to chop stalks to start the degrading process, my neighbor does not care to have my corn stalks blowing around his fields all winter. Plus, I want to keep the residue on my fields.

A: Using a rolling stalk cutter, such as those manufactured by Beasler Industries, Noble or Buffalo, will help mix soil with residue, which should slow the movement of your residue. Another option is to make a light discing.
