SELECT FROM VARIETY OF NO-TILL ATTACHMENTS. Thereâ??s certainly no end to the number of attachments that no-tillers use on their planting rigs. And thereâ??s definitely no easy answer to what attachments actually work out the best under nearly all no-till planting conditions.

Sound Off... No-Till Planter Attachments

When it comes to the pros and cons of no-till planter attachments, you can certainly get plenty of opinions.

Just ask No-Till Farmer subscribers who answered a postcard survey asking for their “favorite” and “worst” no-till planter attachment experiences.

Janet Witker says the addition of a Rawson coulter cart to their no-till planter made a significant difference in no-till corn yields. “It helped us harvest the best no-till corn we’ve ever had,” says the Bradner, Ohio, farmer.

Row Cleaners

J. Clinton Chamberlain in Columbiana, Ohio, says the spring-loaded Martin row cleaner is his favorite attachment. “It works well and I’ve never broken one,” he says.

But when these row cleaners were mounted directly to the planting units, they didn’t work as well in hard ground. “If the planting unit was out of the ground, so was the row cleaner,” he says.

The Yetter 2960 mounted 13 wave no-till coulter is the best attachment ever used by John Seubert at J & J Farms in Sunman, Ind.

“With our John Deere 7200 no-till planter, this coulter gives consistent seed placement and planting depth,” he says. “It cuts through all types of residue without plugging.”

When it comes to the worst no-till planter attachments, Seubert names the Yetter single notch blade fertilizer coulter with side knife.

“The side knife was always coming open and letting residue plug it,” he says. “Then the blade would start dragging and it was a nightmare for corn no-tilled after corn. Where fields were disced, the notched…
