Organic No-Tiller and 2022 National No-Tillage Conference Speaker Rick Clark is scheduled to testify to the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Agriculture next week.
According to a schedule update, Clark will join the Ken McCarty of McCarty Family Farms for a full committee hearing on the subject of "Soil Health Practices and Programs that Support Regenerative Agriculture." The in-person and Zoom hearing is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. EST in room 1300 of the Longworth House Office Building.
Clark, of Williamsport, Ind., has managed to avoid the use of synthetic inputs on his farm for eight years as of 2023. He uses cold-tolerant peas to expand his growing window into the late winter/early spring months, plants corn green into hairy vetch, and uses diverse legume cocktails to manage his nutrients on-farm.
Clark was honored as a 2021 No-Till Innovator at the conference.
The McCarty Family Farms in Colby, Kan., are a 5-farm dairy operation focused on regenerative practices. It wasn't immediately clear whether the farms — which recently expanded to include a grain operation — use no-till or not.
Other speakers slated to testify include: Jeff Meyer, the CEO of the Rodale Institute; Steve Nygren, founder and CEO of Serenbe; and Rebecca Larson, Chief Scientist and Vice President for Government Affairs for the Western Sugar Cooperative.
The hearing will be live-streamed on YouTube.
