GS3 Quality Seed Inc., founded and owned by Garth and Susan Mulkey, a fourth-generation, family-owned farm and cover crop seed provider based in Monmouth, Ore., has bought out KB Seed Solutions, another prominent cover crop seed provider based in Harrisburg, Ore.

“GS3 has enjoyed a good working relationship with KB Seed Solutions since day one,” says Mulkey. “This acquisition allows us an opportunity to expand our customer base and increase our sales volume.”

“Wayne (Kizer) and I have worked very closely with Garth over 10 years. He knows our customers and has been involved in the cover crop industry. We wanted to see KB Seed Solutions move forward with the same integrity we put into promoting covers,” says Nick Bowers, who co-owns KB Seed Solutions with Kizer. “Garth was a great fit. I believe in the system, in what cover crops and no-till can do, and I got to meet a lot of great people along the way.”

GS3 Quality Seed Inc., founded in 2009, grows and markets cover crop seed for a variety of species, including NitroRadish, TNT hairy vetch, SuperBee phacelia, Austrian winter peas, purple top turnips, crimson clover and KB annual ryegrass.

KB Seed Solutions grows cover crop seed for species such as annual ryegrass, NitroRadish, crimson clover, purple top turnips and winter peas. The company has dealers in 15 states.

Mulkey adds that GS3 will maintain and build relationships with all current KB Seed Solutions dealers, while still contracting with the growers who produce cover crop seed for both organizations. As part of the purchase agreement, Bowers and Kizer will remain involved as consultants to GS3 for a number of years. Customers of both companies can expect to receive the same level of customer service they’ve been accustomed to.

“My youngest daughter, Dayna, will be working in sales and managing orders from customers through fulfillment,” says Mulkey. “Over the next two years, as she completes her business degree at Oregon State University, she will take on a larger role in handling and processing orders and marketing for GS3.”
