Ag States of America

The Ag States of America series is brought to you by Pivot Bio.

It’s time to re-think nitrogen. Pivot Bio PROVEN™ replaces nitrogen fertilizer with microbes that adhere to the crop’s root system and apply nitrogen each day. 2019 performance report data shows Pivot Bio PROVEN™ consistently outperforms synthetic nitrogen fertilizer year-over-year, providing corn growers improved yields and a more dependable nitrogen supply that isn’t lost to the environment. To read the performance report, go to PivotBio.com. For more information on Pivot Bio PROVEN, text PROVEN to 31313.

No-Till Farmer's Conservation Ag Operator Fellowship

Launched in 2022 to mark the start of No-Till Farmer's second 50 years, the annual Conservation Ag Operator Fellowship program follows a selected no-till farmer throughout the year and shares the real-time decision-making and solutions needed to make no-till and conservation ag practices work in real-world conditions.

The 2024 fellowship program, made possible by The Nature Conservancy, aims to broaden farmers’ understanding about how to realize economic and sustainability success through no-till and conservation ag by returning to the same farm all year long. No-Till Farmer's editors and industry advisors selected McCormick due to his extensive experience with no-till and innovative approach to implementing a diverse spectrum of conservation practices. McCormick is a 2010 No-Till Innovator Award recipient, was honored as a No-Till Living Legend in 2011 and is a frequent National No-Tillage Conference speaker. He has been no-tilling his 3,200-acre operation for more than 30 years.

The Conservation Ag Operator Fellowship program includes an in-depth, year-long content series shared via No-Till Farmer channels that details McCormick's decisions and actions throughout the year. The multi-media series examines his approach to a variety of subjects, including cropping decisions, attachment/equipment purchases, test plots, seeding/planting conditions and on-the-go decisions in response to weather and other variables. Farmers may also ask McCormick specific questions at any time through the "Ask the Operator" online forum. The capstone of the project includes a final report on performance and results, and a keynote presentation at the 33rd Annual National No-Tillage Conference in Louisville from Jan. 7-10, 2025.

Focusing on Smarter, Sustainable Fertilizing Strategies

In agriculture, improved management practices have to make sense in dollars and cents. Sustainable agriculture means stewardship of the land, air and water — but it also means doing this in a way that is profitable over the long-term.

Sustaining and further improving crop yield is the best objective of soil health. Continuous improvement of crop yield is extremely dependent on how we plan to invest and sustain the soil ecosystem to withstand environmental threats and stripping of key nutrients needed to sustain agriculture.

agroliquidNo-Till Farmer's Focusing on Smarter, Sustainable Fertilizing Strategies series is brought to you by AgroLiquid. For over 35 years, AgroLiquid has been on a mission to engineer the best plant nutrition products while safeguarding your crops, the soil and the environment.

No-Till History

The No-Till History digital archive to commemorate no-till’s historic year in 2024 is made possible by Calmer.

Calmer

In 1975, after borrowing $500 from the bank and $500 from his grandma, Marion started his farming operation of 80 acres of corn and 10 gilts. He would go on to build the world’s first 15-inch corn head in 1994, the world’s first 12-inch corn head in 2013 and the world’s largest corn head (at the time) that same year. Most recently, Marion invented the BT Chopper® Upgrade Kit system to enable factory corn heads to manage cornstalk residue more efficiently than ever, saving farmers time and money. On top of that Calmer Corn Heads build custom corn heads that will fit most combines. Visit them at calmercornheads.com.

Enjoy a stunning and unique collection of no-till stories, photographs, facts, and figures chronicling the history of no-till farming from the early years through today. This extraordinary hardbound book is over 400 pages and takes a decade-by-decade look at the world of no-till as seen through the eyes of those who observed the many changes in no-till since the first commercial U.S. plot in 1962. Learn more about "From Maverick to Mainstream: A History of No-Till Farming" and information to order here.
