Event Description

The Benton/Tama Watershed is hosting a 2-hour nutrient management field day on the John and Brian Weber farm in Clutier from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Oct. 28, 2015.

The event will focus on managing nutrients effectively in a corn-soybean rotation, and will highlight a variety of nutrient management techniques, including nutrient management plans, variable nitrogen applications, soil sampling, no-till and cover crops.

Speakers include:

  • Growers John and Brian Weber, who will discuss nutrient management plans, no-till soybeans and cereal rye cover crops
  • Meaghan Anderson, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach field agronomist, and Greg Brenneman, ag engineer, who will share the results of the stalk nitrate tests from the nitrogen rate trials, and demonstrate soil sampling techniques for managing soil phosphorus levels
  • Shannon Mitchell, who will provide an update on the Benton/Tama Nutrient Reduction Demonstration Project

Directions to Weber's farm:

Weber's farm is located at 2416 U Ave., rural Clutier. From Tama, take Highway 63 north approximately 3 miles. Turn right (east) onto E42 (295th St.). Go 10 miles and continue north onto Highway V18 (T Ave) for another 3 miles. Turn right (east) onto E36 (250th St.). Take the first left (north) on U Ave (gravel road). The field day site is on the left (west) side of the road with many large grain bins.
