The most recent USDA Crop Progress report, which reports data for the week ended Sept. 13, 2020, showed that some 5% of corn has been harvested, exceeding the 3% harvested in the same week last year. This was in line with the 5 year average of 5%. Texas showed the most corn harvested at 67%.
Some 41% of corn was reported mature, almost three times the 16% reported in the same week last year and above the 5 year average of 32%. North Carolina led the charge with 90% of its corn mature. Corn crop condition was mostly unchanged from last week, though corn crops in "excellent" condition did drop to 14% from 15% in the previous week.
The report showed 37% of soybeans dropping leaves in the week ended Sept. 13, 2020, almost three times the 13% reported this time last year. This also surpassed the 31% 5 year average. Louisiana reported the most soybeans dropping leaves at 80%. The percentage of soybean crops in "good" condition came in 50%, down from 52% in the previous week.
