A: We’re looking to integrate more animal, plant and insect diversity into our operation to improve soil health. Plus we’re looking to get more covers interseeded rather than after harvest to lengthen the growing season and increase beneficial impacts. 

I want to bring more grazing livestock on crop acres and I’m looking at adding pollinator habitat strips in my cropped fields to increase our beneficial insects and keep pests in check without using insecticide.

A: I’m changing my sulfur application from a fall elemental sulfur with my phosphorus and potassium application to a spring ammonium sulfate application at 100 pounds per acre after planting corn but before emergence. We’ll also add about 20 units of N for the growing season. In the past, it didn’t seem the elemental sulfur was there for the early stages of corn growth.
