But if you’re looking to protect this year’s yields, crop protection manufacturers are adding a wide variety of new and improved crop protection products and technologies to their product portfolios.

From corn and soybeans to cereals and fertility, many of the new products for 2009 offer no-tillers some great advantages in the field. The following is a quick overview of what’s new in 2009 and some updates on products in the pipeline.

Corn/Soybean Herbicides

Ignite 280 SL Herbicide

Registered for use on all LibertyLink crops, including corn, soybeans and more, new Ignite herbicide from Bayer CropScience is the only nonselective alternative to glyphosate on the market.

It controls more than 120 broadleaf weeds and grasses, including ALS- and glyphosate-resistant weeds, and allows no-tillers to rotate nonselective herbicides to manage weed resistance. Company representative say there are no documented cases of weed resistance to Ignite.

Ignite can be tankmixed with most other crop protection products. It can be used pre-emergence or when weeds are no more than 4 inches tall.

“Ignite and the LibertyLink trait allows growers to effectively manage weeds while farming the way they want,” says Andy Hurst, Ignite herbicide product manager for Bayer CropScience.

Cadet Herbicide

A new post-emergence, weed-control option for corn and soybeans, Cadet controls many ALS- and glyphosate-tolerant weeds, which FMC Corp. officials say makes it an excellent option for management of herbicide-resistant weeds.
