Sometimes a grower will approach Steve Berger and tell him that he lost 40 bushels trying to no-till and use cover crops. Steve, a no-tiller and cover-crop user in Wellman, Iowa, takes that to heart. But he thinks the reason some guys may be losing yield is due to four things: nitrogen, the planter setup, insects and time.
In this episode, which comes from the 2016 National No-Tillage Conference, Steve will talk about why he thinks those four components are key to good yields in a no-till, cover-crop program, and what specifically he recommends no-tillers do to be successful in their systems. He’ll also share details about his own farm and why his management program is designed the way it is.
In today’s No-Till Farmer podcast, brought to you by Montag Manufacturing, we welcome Steve Berger to talk about how to protect and build the soil with no-till and cover crops.
