Carl Ayers stands in one of Carroll, Ohio, no-tiller David Brandt’s fields last summer.
No-Till Farmer was saddened to receive news today that longtime Wauseon, Ohio, no-tiller Carl Ayers had passed away recently.
Ayers, 69, died suddenly last Friday at Mercy St. Anne Hospital in Toledo. Carl’s obituary and service information are available by clicking here.
Carl and his wife, Bev, were frequent attendees at the National No-Tillage Conference. In fact, Carl had attended the conference 19 times out of the event’s 24-year history.
“Carl was a no-tiller through and through,” says Todd Hesterman, who no-tills near Napoleon, Ohio and considered Ayers a mentor. “I was with him on Wednesday last week and we were discussing when to terminate a neighbor’s cover crop that Carl had been influential in getting him to try for the first time. We also talked about future rotations and what covers to use to be successful.
“He was a positive influence on many producers like myself and will be sorely missed.”
