USDA Deregulates Dow’s Enlist Corn, Soybean Traits

The Department of Agriculture issued its decision to deregulate Dow AgroSciences’ Enlist corn and soybean traits in the U.S.

The decision concluded one of the most thorough reviews of a biotech trait in history. Dow now awaits EPA registration of Enlist Duo herbicide, the companion herbicide to the traits.

Cheminova Launches Harrow Herbicide

Cheminova unveiled a new selective herbicide for burndown and residual control of annual grass and broadleaf weeds in field corn.

With the active ingredients rimsulfuron and thifensulfuron-methyl, Harrow can be applied fallow at pre-plant, pre-emergence and post-emergence. The company says it provides control of key weeds, including annual bluegrass, foxtail, lambsquarters and velvetleaf.

Unapproved GM Wheat Discovered In Montana

The Department of Agriculture reported that Monsanto’s genetically modified wheat was found growing in a second state.

The wheat, which was never approved for sale, was found at a research facility for Montana State University where Monsanto held field trials between 2000 and 2003. Regulators have said that they can’t explain how the plants escaped.

Wheat containing Monsanto’s herbicide-tolerant trait was also found last year when a farmer in Oregon discovered it growing in his fields.

Verdesian Life Sciences Acquires QC Corporation

Verdesian Life Sciences has acquired QC Corp., a producer and supplier of granular and dry micronutrients and ferrous sulfate products.

The Gordon family will continue to lead the day-to-day operations of QC and manage customer relationships, and QC’s employees will also remain actively involved in the business.
