During last winter's seventh annual National No-Tillage Conference in St. Louis, we asked attendees to share their views on fall strip-tilling.
While some farmers and educators maintain fall strip-tilling can help overcome the wet, cold soil conditions faced by no-tillers in the spring, there was no solid agreement among conference attendees as to whether it’s a good way to push up no-till profits.
The survey indicated that 20 percent of conference attendees strip-till to overcome soil concerns while 80 percent do not.
Looking ahead, 22 percent expect to be strip-tilling by the year 2001. Some 40 percent don’t expect to strip-till two years from now and 38 percent aren’t sure.
