By now, you’re starting to think less about what you’re going to do with yourself during the winter months and more about the upcoming planting season. And with the newest addition to no-till weed control products, the selection process has never been more difficult.
During the eighth annual National No-Tillage Conference in Des Moines, Iowa, technical representatives from American Cyanamid, Aventis, Monsanto and Zeneca Ag Products shared information on their weed control products with many of the 715 attendees.
Besides their already established line of products, American Cyanamid has introduced two new weed control products, Extreme, an in-crop post-emergence product, and Backdraft, which is primarily designed as a burndown.
“With Extreme, the use rate is 3 pints per acre and it will be a single rate product,” says Dennis Belcher, a technical service rep for American Cyanamid. Belcher explains the components that make up Extreme are Pursuit and Glyphosate, the active ingredient in Roundup.
Backdraft, he says, comes in 3 and 4 pint rates, being made up of Sceptor and Glyphosate. “These will be sufficient to use in either the in-crop or during the burndown application,” he says.
Since Backdraft contains Sceptor, Belcher recommends the product for farmers who are primarily located south of Iowa.
“There’s nothing that says you can’t use Backdraft in-crop,” he says. “You just have to make sure you’re using Roundup Ready soybeans if you choose to take this route. Extreme, on the other hand, is positioned primarily as a product…
