To promote their crop and know first-hand the benefits of the products made from it, Greg and Ron Schmidt of Madison, Neb., participated in the development of SoyShield, a soy-based diesel additive that improves the lubricity of the fuel, resulting in longer lasting equipment.

These brothers use a soil-based fuel additive to promote and support no-till soybeans.

If you don’t use products made from the crops you grow, you can’t expect your city cousins to either.

This philosophy, while simple, is thoroughly practiced by Greg and Ron Schmidt. They say it, believe it and promote it through their no-till operation in Madison, Neb.

The brothers manage and operate Schmidt Brothers Farms where the philosophy about promoting crops is not taken lightly. They employ a variety of practices to preserve their crop product, machinery and farm which has been in the Schmidt family since 1892.

These no-tillers promote their crops by using a soy-based fuel additive called SoyShield and find the benefits far outweigh any additional cost.

“We use SoyShield to promote our soybeans,” Greg says. “But it also improves the lubricity of the fuel, lubricating the engine and the injector pump system.”

As a diesel additive, the Schmidt brothers add 1 gallon of SoyShield to 600 gallons of number 2 diesel. “The end result is a premium diesel fuel,” Greg explains.

“We also used it last winter with number 1 diesel and didn’t have any problems with jelling or freezing. It’s very economical.”

While Greg knows the benefits of this soy-based additive, it’s his brother Ron who understands first-hand the development and research required to bring this quality product to market.

As the president of the local Soybean Council, Ron was highly interested in seeing this product become available for growers.
