Many topics addressed this past month on the No-Till Farmer Farmer’s Forum were regarding various no-till equipment modifications. Here’s what you missed:

Yetter 2998 Fertilizer Openers

Anyone ever had any of these openers? Mine came on a nearly new no-till planter. It opens a decent slot but slings fertilizer around the inside of the double disk openers. It also tosses fertilizer on the row cleaners and sometimes the toolbar. I can’t afford new ones right now. Yetter hasn’t been much help; they quit making these units about 5 years ago.

What seems to work best with this coulter is to bend the tube to the rear and add a piece of vinyl hose to the bottom. Make it long enough so that it reaches past the blades to the rear and will drag through the slot. While this coulter was not the best we ever made, there are many no-tillers who liked them. Never hesitate to call the Yetter service department or your Yetter salesman if you have questions about a product, obsolete or not.

Sorry you haven’t had much luck getting your questions answered at farm shows. We try to follow up but as in life, sometimes the ball gets dropped. Farm shows are a good place to break in and train new employees so perhaps…
