BESIDES PICKING UP plenty of new ideas from the program and if networking with almost 650 fellow attendees wasn’t enough, some folks at the 13th annual National No-Tillage Conference in Cincinnati, Ohio, went home with a number of extremely valuable, big-time prizes.
Trevor Hughes of Peru, Ind., won the free 1-year use of a Phillips rotary harrow, valued at over $19,000 for the 2005 season.
Burdette Piening of Lincoln, Neb., won the free 1-year use of the Zone Commander vertical tillage tool from Brillion Iron Works.
Dean James of Danville, Pa., won a trash reduction kit that features smaller gathering chain drive sprockets for his combine from Calmer Farms.
Sponsored by Phoenix Rotary Equipment Ltd., Katie Smith of Bainbridge, Ga., won first prize in the conservation tillage essay contest and walked away with $2,500 in scholarship money. Winning second place and $1,500 was Nicole Thomas of Pavillion, Wyo., and placing third and earning a $1,000 scholarship was Wade Boehm of Ames, Iowa.
