Here Comes the Bride (In the Key of No-Till): Spray Drift Experiment
Dan Perkins and Richard Brain have been helping our NTF staff with graphical representations of farm productivity and erosion relative to the growth in U.S. no-till acreage. In examining the researchers’ recent work, we came across this 11-minute video (a visual experiment to complement their peer-reviewed publications) that demonstrates drift performance of today's spraying technologies — with a white wedding dress and red dye. Understanding the current realities of physical spray drift amidst worst-case scenario regulations, they say, is essential to avoid a retreat back into tillage for weed control.
If Predator Was A No-Tiller …
This May 16 drone photo tweet by North Dakota strip and no-tiller Josh Messer shows a thermal image of no-tilled corn. As you can see from the footage, the soil underneath is still colder than the freshly planted rows.
Thermal image of freshly planted no-till corn. Soil is still pretty chilly under the residue. Can’t always get every acre strip-tilled. #plant22 pic.twitter.com/wsoTYpHtkO

UW Agronomist Shows Work on Interseeding
Daniel H. Smith, an agronomist with the University of Wisconsin, posted this time-lapse video of adjustments to a planter. Specifically, Smith was rigging a no-till planter for interseeding with cover crops.

Sadhguru Calls for Minimum Organic Soil Matter
At the recently concluded United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification, Sadhguru, a prominent spiritual personality and soil health advocate, called for a minimum soil organic matter rate of 3%.
Twitter Captures Farmer Sowing (Near) The Whirlwind
Photos of a wedge tornado captured near Morton, Texas, have been all over social media. However, one of the photos, posted with emphasis on Twitter by Brad Heffington, shows a farmer in the foreground working with equipment while a funnel cloud rages in the background. He’s a professional, folks. Don’t try this at home.
Guy still planting, screw you tornado! pic.twitter.com/Fxz0PibGpC

Make Spraying Fun!
Today's complex chemical mixtures usually have a combination of bulk, jugs, and dry products. The high value products usually come in small packages. Mixmate is the only system designed to measure and process these products quickly. Jugs are processed in about 12 seconds. The Mixmate Fusion has a high flow rate rinsing system to ease dry product measurement and induction. This makes mixing on demand a breeze!
