No-Till, Covers Belong Together

Steve Groff of Lancaster, Pa., lays out the case for combining no-till and cover crops on his Cedar Meadow Farm Youtube Channel. Groff, a frequent speaker at the National No-Tillage Conference, is speaking for a lay audience, but his case is no less convincing.

Scottish Ag Research Strip-Till Planter Gets New Irish Life

Irish engineering and agriculture students at Munster Technological University, as well as a Kerry Agribusiness, an Irish dairy, were interested in identifying the best approach to establishing clover for silage and pastureland. So they worked to convert the bones of a strip-till rig into an air-driven planting machine. The result is an adorably small (by an American standards, anyway) 12-row air planter with 3 inches of separation between the rows.

Just A Man and His Plow. No, Wait. Don't Go.

Matt Griggs has decided to put three adjacent longtime pastures into production for the 2022 season in early April near Humboldt, Tenn. Griggs, a dedicated no-tiller, faced one problem. The pastures were optimized for cows, not tractors, and his machinery was taking a beating. As a result, he plowed parts of the field to make them more accessible. The decision proved to be a teachable moment: the difference between the non-tilled and tilled soils in the pasture is clearly visible in the video.

Planting No-Till Green In The Keystone State

Mike Less, also known by his Youtube handle Farmhand Mike, loves different types of farming equipment in action. This week he captured lovely drone and in-cab footage of a no-tiller planting green on a farm near Pine Grove, PA. In the video, a Versatile 210 pulls a Kinze 3500 planter through what appears to be unsprayed cover crops.

Farming On The Moon?

This isn't exactly a no-till item, but it is mighty cool. Scientists have successfully grown plants in lunar soils on earth, according to an article in Nature. The scientists wanted to know if it was possible to assist long-term habitation on the moon. The plants in question were a weed species from Africa and Eurasia. The upshot: plants in lunar soil germinated, but they acted as though they were under drought and salt stresses. Whattya reckon the NPK rate is for the Sea of Tranquility?

Make Spraying Fun!

Today's complex chemical mixtures usually have a combination of bulk, jugs, and dry products. The high value products usually come in small packages. Mixmate is the only system designed to measure and process these products quickly. Jugs are processed in about 12 seconds. The Mixmate Fusion has a high flow rate rinsing system to ease dry product measurement and induction. This makes mixing on demand a breeze!

If you are mixing in the field or stationary, simplify the job with Mixmate. Automated mixing with automated records... done right and done fast. Get the most out of your sprayer investment and make spraying fun with Mixmate by Praxidyn!
