Handling In-Row Challenges with No-Till Planter Innovations

Seed-depth control, residue management, fertilizer placement and more get a boost with the latest round of planting technology improvements.

With a new planting season in view, editors asked ag manufacturers to share their latest planter innovations to share in this edition of Conservation Tillage Guide.

Suppliers continue to surprise with innovative solutions being rolled out to make the task of planting crops more precise, measurable and profitable. 

What follows is a roundup of some of the new technologies expected to be available for the 2021 growing season. 


360 Yield Center Wave

360 Yield Center’s Wave technology surrounds seeds with moisture by peeling a band of moist soil from the lower
half of the seed trench and rolling it over the top of the seed. This reduces the risk of slotting and air pockets in dry, wet and ideal seedbed conditions, the company says. 

The Wave has an angled blade that slices through the seed-trench sidewall and delivers starter to the side and below the seed. The company says years of field trials show the best starter response comes from placing starter below the seed and ¾ inch from the seed trench.

The Wave blade mounts to the rear of the planter row-unit shank and swivels to follow the seed trench on curves but includes a stop to limit travel so the blade never places starter in the seed trench. The blade is spring loaded so that it can react to rocks and obstructions without becoming bent or misaligned.
