According to the latest USDA Crop Progress report, 59% of corn was reported mature as of the week ended Sept. 20, 2020. This is more than double the 26% reported mature in the same week last year and the 5 year average of 49%. North Carolina reported the most corn mature at 93%. The report showed 8% of corn has been harvested, below the 5 year average of 10% but above the 6% harvested this time last year. Texas has harvested the most corn thus far at 69%.
Corn crop condition remained mostly unchanged from the previous week, though corn in "good" condition did rise to 47% from 46% in the previous week. This is higher than the 46% reported this time last year; corn crops in "excellent" condition were reported at 14%, in line with the previous week but above the 11% reported this time last year.
USDA reported 59% of soybean crops dropping leaves, above the 29% harvested this time last year and the 5 year average of 50%. Louisiana led the charge at 87% of its soybeans dropping leaves. Some 6% of soybeans were reported harvested, in line with the 5 year average and above the 2% reported harvested this time last year.
Soybean crops in "good" condition rose to 51% from 50% in the previous week, while soybean crops in "excellent" condition dropped to 12% from 13% in the previous week. Conditions remained better than those reported in the same week last year, when 45% of crops were in "good" condition and 9% were in "excellent" condition.
