With 2,000 acres of crops and a farrow-to-finish hog operation, Dave Chance has a lot to balance in his operation. The Lebanon, Ind., no-tiller shares why it’s important to focus on the complex, interactive relationship that occurs between the physical, chemical and biological properties of the soil.
Some of the techniques he details include pattern drain tiling, aerobic soil aeration without soil inversion, variable-rate fertilizer, soil amendments and compost applications based on the Dr. William Albrecht method of soil balance and an extensive use of diverse species of cover crops.
