Late-season digital aerial imagery of corn and soybean fields has helped nearly 900 Iowa farmers benchmark and compare the soil and plant-nutrient status of minerals like nitrogen, phosphorus, potassium, sulfur, zinc, copper, manganese and boron.

Peter Kyveryga gives examples of the nutrient status of no-till fields vs. management practices like tillage and manure applications or as a result of soil organic-matter levels. The senior research associate with the Iowa Soybean Association’s On-Farm Network also discusses common misperceptions when using results of soil and plant-tissue testing and the uncertainty of making management decisions for specific macro or micronutrients.
