With 3,000 acres of corn, 1,500 acres of soybeans, a full-service ag retail business and an excavation company, you wouldn’t think VanTilburg Farms in Celina, Ohio, would have time for cover crops. But Matt VanTilburg would tell you how the use of cover crops the past 9 years has helped the farm transition from conventional tillage to strip-till and now no-till.
Having tried many methods of seeding, VanTilburg shares why and how they seed into standing crops, a look at two converted Walker sprayers used to seed covers for his farm and custom-seeding operation and the various species they plant. His soil tests show VanTilburg Farms is on the right track for maintaining healthy, productive soils for the next generation.
