Fertilizer placement in no-till can be a challenge as a result of limited soil mobility. Nutrients need to be placed where the crop roots can access them. Numerous research has been conducted on the Agro-Culture Liquid Fertilizers’ farm near St. Johns, Mich., on placement options in both no-till and strip-till.

Jerry Wilhm, senior research manager for Agro-Culture, shares results of years of data comparing in-furrow applications of nutrients to traditional 2-by-2-inch placement to see what impact earlier seed access to nutrients does for stands and yields. He also looks at liquid phosphorus and potassium application placement and timing in strip-till.
