Some 56% of No-Till Farmer readers said they planted cover crops in 2010, evidence that this soil-building strategy is gathering momentum. Steve Groff, a Holtwood, Pa., no-tiller, will share ways to work with some of the more popular cover crops today, but also reveal some cover-cropping species that might be worth trying in your no-till operation.

Groff will review the benefits of tillage radish, including compaction alleviation, nitrogen uptake and soil conditioning, through 10 years of work in conjunction with the University of Maryland. In addition, he will provide the benefits of some cover crops you may not have heard of, including sunn hemp, blue lupine, phacelia and more.
