The Freeborn County Soil Health Team has planned another field day and would like to invite YOU! This field day is going to start at 9am sharp with a demonstration that never fails to open eyes and get you thinking. The field day will go until 1pm and will be packed full of information and hands on learning opportunities. So don’t wear your Sundays best!
Our host took the advice from the our Spring field day presenter and planted annual ryegrass into corn at the V6 stage. Did it ruin the crop or make it thrive?! He also will have different species of cover crops growing around the farm. So come get acquainted with what they look like and why he chose to plant them. We will have a root pit to look at both corn and cover crop roots as well as discuss the health of both crops and “dig in” to learn what better soil structure and balance can bring to farmers pocket books. Another station will cover the “How To” of getting cover crops planted and terminated in a timely and successful manner.
That’s not all! While you enjoy lunch, provided free of charge thanks to our sponsors, the soil health team has roped in a NRCS RMA representative to come and answer your cover crop/crop insurance questions. After you are done drilling him with questions we will have several farmers (No till, Strip till, conventional till, and others) up front and ready to answer more of your farm management type of questions when implementing cover crops.
Don’t forget to check out our sponsor booths either before or after the field day. They are all ready to help you create a healthier soil!
If you have any specific questions that you would like to be discussed throughout the day please send them along with your RSVP to this field day. We will do our best to fill you up with great information AND food!
SEE YOU THERE!!!
