The Montana chapter of the Soil & Water Conservation Society is sponsoring a bus tour to showcase farms and ranches in the Dakotas that have moved to the next level of soil health by using innovative practices such as cover crops, diverse no-till systems and integrating livestock into cropping systems. Stops include the Dakota Lakes Farm in Pierre, S.D. with Dr. Dwayne Beck; Gabe Brown Ranch in Bismarck, N.D.; Menoken Farm near Bismarck, N.D. (hosted by Jay Fuhrer); and the Doan Ranch in McKenzie, N.D. Cost is $175 and includes bus trip, guide and most meals. Bus pick-ups in Billings and Miles City on Sept. 12.
