University of Nebraska-Lincoln greenhouse studies have confirmed a Palmer amaranth population resistant to postemergence application of atrazine and HPPD-inhibiting herbicides (Callisto, Laudis, Armezon/Impact). This is the second report (after Kansas) of a Palmer amaranth population resistant to atrazine and the HPPD group of herbicides.

Dry soil conditions can enhance persistence of herbicides such as atrazine, University of Kentucky experts say.

Syngenta and attorneys for several community water systems have agreed to settle litigation related to the herbicide atrazine to avoid what it calls “business uncertainty and expense of protracted litigation.”

Part of the opportunity for me to recently present the “S.H. Phillips Distinguished Lecture In No-Till Agriculture” at the University of Kentucky was the chance to spend the day talking with faculty members and graduate students from around the world. Phillips was a pioneer in the early 1960s in getting no-till started on a commercial scale. And he would certainly be proud to know no-till has grown to an astounding 288 million acres today around the world.

A waterhemp population from southeast Nebraska has been confirmed to be resistant to 2,4-D, but the resistant population is believed to be limited to a few fields.
