Batting No-Till Nitrogen Concerns

The best methods to apply nitrogen for no-till corn and dealing with a soybean crop that has little nodulation are among the topics discussed recently on the No-Till Farmer sponsored Web site Bulletin Board.

Q: I usually sidedress every no-till corn row with anhydrous ammonia and I really like this nitrogen source. This year the rains came and we just barely got the nitrogen on. What are your suggestions for better nitrogen application?

My time is limited as I work off of the farm and fall nitrogen application is not an option for me. Will skip row nitrogen application work as well? Could we make a preplant skip-row application?

A: We applied nitrogen a few years ago on 60-inch centers and it worked great.

Sidedressing is not a good option for us because of terraces, so we apply all our nitrogen with the planter.
