Effective corn nitrogen management is often boiled down to quantifying and managing various risks. Peter Kyveryga says two common risks are nitrogen losses during wet springs and the risk of using diagnostic tools and nitrogen prescriptions that do not consider uncertainty at various spatial and management levels.
The senior research associate for the Iowa On-Farm Network shows how no-tillers might form local groups that can utilize tools like late-season aerial imagery of corn canopies, soil and plant tissue testing and onfarm replicated strip trials to quantify how often their corn fields have deficient or excessive corn nitrogen.
