Donn Branton grows a diverse portfolio of crops. Besides corn and soybeans, the Le Roy, N.Y., farmer plants oats, processing peas, string beans, dry beans and more. And with this diversity of crops, Branton utilizes a diverse set of limited tillage practices from no-till to zone-till to strip-till.
In this presentation, Branton shares how he decides which tillage system to use with his varied cropping system, along with the benefits and detractors of each practice. He also explains how nutrient management has changed since he introduced strip-till to his farm 9 years ago and how field-sized farm trials have shown him how to improve crop response to applied nutrients for better productivity.
