While John Young’s no-till system of three crops in 2 years may not work for every no-tiller, that doesn’t mean double-cropped soybeans aren’t an option on your farm. The Herndon, Ky., no-tiller and son Alexander shares what you need to consider to find out if you can take two crops off a field in one year.

The Youngs examine considerations for wheat and soybean varieties, fertility, machinery and crop rotations. They also look at what you need to do to ensure good seed-to-soil contact and proper depth of no-tilled soybeans right after wheat harvest. Finally, they look at management of soybeans with fungicides, insecticides, growth regulators, foliar applications, irrigation and harvest.
