Evolution of Yield Monitors in the Last 25 Years

When yield monitors first came out, many no-tillers thought they gave the exact yield at an exact spot in the field. However, as no-tillers learned during No-Till Legend and University of Nebraska- Lincoln extension ag engineer Paul Jasa’s National No-Tillage Conference presentation 25 years ago, yield monitor results are only as good as the calibration. In his return to the general session stage for the 2024 Silver Anniversary Lecture, the No-Till Innovator of the Year Alum and recipient of the conference’s Best Presentation Award explains how combine dynamics and operation affect the yield monitor and how no-tillers can better understand the usefulness and limitations of the gathered data and resulting yield maps.
