Precision Planting Cereal Rye & Legumes for Increased Yields

Winter-hardy cereal rye is the most popular cover crop choice for no-tillers, but it can cause a yield hit in corn if the right (or wrong) weather comes in spring. Purdue Univ.’s Shalamar Armstrong investigated the use of RTK to precision plant winter-hardy cover crops and the inclusion of winter-hardy legumes to help no-tillers reap the benefits of having a cover without giving up bushels at harvest. Armstrong details the findings from this trial and how you can apply the lessons learned on your own operation.
