The Real Work of No-Till Farmer-Led Initiatives & Best Ideas to Rally Your Community
Organized in 2017, Wisconsin’s Cedar Creek Farmers (2022 No-Till Innovator of the Year) provide soil and water quality outreach to producers along a watershed that serves 42,000 residents. This farmer-led group promotes soil health via no-till, cover crops, regenerative farming and nutrient management, and encourages riparian buffers, prairie strips and streambank stabilization to further reduce phosphorus levels in the watershed’s surface waters. The group created novel incentives for establishing grasses in concentrated flow channels, reducing tillage, cover crops and nutrient management planning. Board member Ross Bishop, Jackson, Wis., a 25-year no-tiller, shares thought-provoking ideas and examples of support that you’ll be able to draw upon to advance no-till in your area. Learn how to mobilize and engage your farm and city neighbors to improve community-wide farming practices.
