This two-day conference will provide growers a forum to exchange information, discuss opportunities for collaboration and learn about new and successful practices related to cover crops. Case study presentations will also identify and discuss strengths and challenges of real applications.
Specific sessions include soil management, water management, pest management, economics, cover crop management and no-till. Speakers include NRCS and USDA Agricultural Research Service scientists, growers, crop consultants and university researchers who have extensive experience in cover crop management.
Jason Lee, a NRCS state agronomist in Arkansas, says southern farmers cannot rely on the tried and proven management techniques that the Midwest employs to manage cover crop mixes, as conditions in the south are different. The conference will address how growers can plan and manage cover crop mixes according to southern agricultural farming practices.
Certified crop adivsors can earn continuing education units for attending the training.
