No-tiller Bill Buessing is hosting a cover crop meeting and field day on Nov. 5.
The meeting will start at the American Legion in Axtell, Kan., with registration at 8:30 a.m. The workshop kicks off at 9:30 a.m.
Keith Berns, co-owner of Green Cover Seed, will talk about his cover crop experience and the plots he's planted since 2008. Corn-and-soybean farmer Chris Teachout will discuss how he's been using spring- and fall-planted cover crops and the cash crop yield increases he's seen from them. Buessing will also talk about how he's incorporated cattle into his rotation of cash crops and cover crops. The NRCS and Tuttle Creek WRAPS will be present to discuss programs available for producers.
After the meeting there will be a cover crop plot tour.
Registration is $10 and includes a catered lunch. Registration is due by Oct. 20. Contact Buessing at 785-336-1853 or billbuessing@gmail.com for any questions or to register.
