We are pleased to announce the Western New York Soil Health Field Day will be held on September 2nd in Perry, New York. The Wyoming County Soil and Water Conservation District, Natural Resource Conservation Service, Western NY Crop Management Association, and the American Farmland Trust have put together an exciting agenda, which includes nationally renowned speakers, Ray Archuleta and Frank Gibbs! The event will be hosted by Dueppengiesser Dairy Company (7835 Butler Road, Perry).
A healthy soil can improve farm profitability and sustainability through increasing crop resilience and productivity, all while reducing inputs and saving farms money. Healthy soils also have many desirable traits, including improved water infiltration rate, increased water holding capacity, and reduced compaction. Through the field day, participants will gain a thorough understanding of soil health techniques through equipment demonstrations, cover crop test plots, and a multitude of other demonstrations on a working farm. Participants will also work in a small group setting with Ray Archuleta and Frank Gibbs, both soil science experts with NRCS. The event will be a hands on experience for all in attendance and you can be sure that no one will leave with clean hands!
All are welcome to attend. The cost for the general session is $10 and for the advanced session is $50. Pre-registration is preferred. Attendance is limited, so be sure to register today! For registration and more information, contact Wyoming County Soil and Water Conservation District at wcswcd@frontiernet.net or (585) 786-5070.
