The Financial Cost of Erosion

April 13, 2015

Newell Kitchen, a soil scientist with the USDA-Agricultural Research Service in Columbia, Mo., talks about how he and colleagues saw a relationship between yield productivity and erosion on a field they were studying. They were able to determine the value to an inch of topsoil and figure out the loss in profit from topsoil erosion. Kitchen also explains the reduction in erosion they saw on that same field after implementing no-till and cover crops.
