The deadline to participate in the U.S. Census of Agriculture, run by the USDA's National Agricultural Statistics Service, is June 30, according to the Census website.

Data collection — undertaken in the form of mailed surveys — is scheduled to begin in November 2022, with responses for the 2022 ag census due back to the statistics service by Feb. 6, 2023. Data from the 2022 ag census is scheduled to be released in 2024.

The Census of Agriculture is designed to be a complete count of U.S. farms, ranches, and operators. The agency defines a farm as anywhere $1,000 or more of fruit, vegetables or food animals are raised or sold.

The Census of Agriculture was last taken in 2017.
